After graduating I made a two-year commitment to Teach for America. I taught high school French in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at Glen Oaks High School. As a teacher of a foreign language, I was allowed the latitude to include arts programming into my regular curriculum--programming which the students would not have otherwise received due to a severe lack of arts funding at the high school level. Through funds I received from a local arts council, I was able to bring a Cajun artist into my classroom, and I witnessed my students respond enthusiastically to the integration of creativity in the arts with our regular curriculum. This program incorporated Cajun culture--dancing, folk art, and song--with the regularly assigned lessons. As a culminating project, my students composed and recorded a song in French that was featured at a local gallery along with other arts projects from various schools. It was at the opening event of this show, watching my students interact with people from the community and with students from other schools that I firmed-up my desire to enter into a career that included both the arts and education. I recently received my M.A. in museum studies from New York University. I have had the privilege to work at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, The Museum of Biblical Art, The New York Transit Museum and the Morgan Library & Museum as a museum educator.
