Location

Querétaro blends colonial and modern Mexico into an attractive, welcoming and lively atmosphere. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers a historic core of pedestrian walkways around colonial buildings and through intimate plazas, bordered by Mexico’s highest and longest aqueduct. Six major universities, modern international manufacturing plants, and cosmopolitan stores and shops also add to the special feel of life in Querétaro.

Mexicans and foreigners alike often call the city “muy mexicana” – and students quickly learn to appreciate this cultural authenticity as they explore the city and the countryside beyond. You won’t be bumping into many other Americans here as you practice your language skills with queretanos of all walks of life. Querétaro’s charm is felt throughout a city—that now numbers more than one million inhabitants.

The Program Site

The Facultad de Lenguas y Letras of the state Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ) has hosted the programs since 1990. Most classes, designed for these programs alone, are held right in the midst of the Facultad. All classes are taught by Mexican university faculty. The UAQ is located on the historic Cerro de las Campanas on the western side of the city. The Facultad offers a computer lab, library and student cafeteria. The summer intensive programs are held on this and other university campuses in the city.
