Academic Program

The University of East Anglia (UEA) is divided into three Faculties (like UO colleges), each of which includes several Schools (like UO departments). UO participants will be admitted into a Faculty, with one School as their main host. Students must take at least 2/3 of their courses in the Faculty (college) into which they are admitted.

Scholarship applicants may choose from nearly any field of study, except for the following: Management, Law, and Development Studies. Also, students must seek prior approval (before applying) for scholarship openings in the School of Social Work and Psychosocial Studies. For complete information on fields of study and courses, see the website below.

Other limitations: Management and Law accept only full-year students. Programs and courses offered through the Institute of Health or the School of Education and Lifelong Learning are not open to UO participants. Students with questions about these policies should consult Roger Adkins.

It is important to note that the British system of higher education stresses in-depth study of a few subjects and provides a sense of specialization that is not generally part of the American undergraduate experience. Learning in this system is self-motivated, with instructors serving more as guides then as teachers, in the traditional sense. A typical course load is three 7- or 8-credit courses per semester.

Registration and Credits

Students participating in this program will be registered at the University of Oregon and will receive UO credits for courses taken at UEA. The student’s course work will be reviewed and evaluated by appropriate academic departments at the UO. Students must keep detailed records of course outlines, reading lists, exam results, and other work completed to facilitate accurate evaluation by the academic departments at the UO.

Students are responsible for making sure that the courses they plan to take at UEA will meet major and minor requirements. Students are advised to consult with their academic advisor about their plans to study in the UEA program.

Course Equivalencies

Only those courses that have been taken by UO students in the last seven years are listed on the equivalency sheet. Courses that do not appear on this sheet will need to be approved for UO credit.
