The Tampere program provides University of Oregon students an opportunity to enroll directly in courses taught in English or in Finnish at the University of Tampere, Finland. The program is ideal for students interested in highly variable formats of study (short courses, intensive courses, and reading examinations) in most fields of the social sciences, selected fields of the humanities, business, and journalism. International studies is a particular focus.

Highlights:
- The University of Tampere is a first-rate research center focused on public policy studies and development, with a strong emphasis on human services, social sciences, international studies, journalism, and related areas.
- The program boasts two Housing Scholarships each semester, covering the full housing costs for two UO participants in single rooms provided in student residence halls.
- Tampere has a highly flexible academic system that encompasses intensive courses, short courses, and self-study through "reading examination" courses.
- Tampere offers cutting-edge and unusual courses on topics such as international development, terrorism, communism, ethnic studies, gender studies, hypermedia design, and mass communication studies.
- Set in the heart of Finland's "Thousand Lakes" region, Tampere is a lively cultural and commercial center within easy traveling distance of Helsinki as well as Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Russia and other destinations.
- Participants benefit from an active students' union that organizes excellent housing, provides many student associations, and plans numerous group trips to Petersburg, the Arctic Circle, Finnish saunas, Tallinn, and more.
