Academics

Academic Program

IMP courses consist of 27 contact hours each.  Attendance is mandatory.  A student who misses a class without a valid medical excuse fails automatically.  Teaching methods emphasize class preparation (readings, exercises, cases), active participation, group work and the use of interactive teaching materials (case studies, business games, simulations and other multimedia tools).  Participants generally have minimal book purchases.

Performance assessment consists of case analyses, essays and examinations.  Final exams are scheduled at the conclusion of each course module and last 1.5 to 3 hours.

During the academic year, courses are offered in one-week modules, usually with one week off between modules.  In the summer program, on the other hand, two courses are bundled together in two-week modules.  Classes usually meet Mon/Tue/Wed/ Fri 9:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 16:00, Thurs 9:00 - 12:00.  Thursday afternoons are reserved for company visits.

Beijing Option

In addition to the summer and academic-year options in France, the Reims Management School also runs a 4-week summer program in Beijing, China.  The program provides an insight into the burgeoning business realities of China—a global giant with nearly a third of the world’s population, and the fastest growing economy the world has ever seen.  The program is offered via a cooperation between the Reims Management School and Tsinghua University and focuses on business strategy and management in China.  UO participants who elect the Beijing option of the Reims program must participate in all four weeks (both “electives”) and will receive 8 graduate credits.

Registration and Credits

Assuming you have secured the approval of the Oregon MBA program director in advance, each course module taken at RMS will be granted 2 UO graduate credits towards the MBA degree.  Thus, students may earn 8 graduate credits during the 4-week summer program, and 16 graduate credits during a ten-week academic year term.  Since RMS offers an extra 3-week session in fall term, students could earn up to 20 graduate credits in fall.

Students participating in this program will be registered at the University of Oregon and will receive UO credits for courses taken in Reims.  The student’s course work will be reviewed and evaluated by Andrew Verner of the OMBA program.  Students must keep detailed records of course outlines, reading lists, exam results, and other work completed to facilitate accurate evaluation by the UO.

Course Equivalencies

Reims participants must meet individually with Andrew Verner to establish course equivalencies for Reims courses.  However, as a rule, students may note that every 2-week module in the Reims program will count as 4 credits at the UO.  For more detailed information on how courses apply to the OMBA degree, please see Andrew Verner.
