Deadlines

The application deadlines are:

April 15 for the fall or academic year program (with or without "summer" addition).
October 15 for the spring semester program (with or without "summer" addition).

Eligibility Requirements

This program is open to admitted and enrolled University of Oregon undergraduate students majoring or minoring in any area of business, journalism, or economics.  To be eligible, students must before departure:

  • have at least 90 credits with an overall GPA of 2.50 or above;
  • have at least 45 credits with an overall GPA of 2.75 or above; and
  • have completed some course work in their major  (Business majors should have their pre-business requirements complete.).

One term or more of college-level Italian is recommended but not required, since all CIMBA courses are taught in English.

Students must also make satisfactory academic progress throughout the application process and their study abroad program, and otherwise comply with policies and procedures of the host university, the UO and Study Abroad Programs.

If you do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements, please contact Roger Adkins before applying.

(Note: This program is not open to graduate students.)

Application Process

IMPORTANT: There are two separate applications for this program, and students must complete both applications by the deadlines posted in this website in order to be admitted.   Both applications are available below.

Early application is advised.   Selection for the program is based on a review of the student's written applications, transcripts, recommendations and a personal interview.   Applications are submitted to Study Abroad Programs, and each student is interviewed by a Study Abroad Programs staff member.   In order to remain eligible to participate, students must be admitted by both the UO and the staff at the CIMBA office in Kansas.

Application #1:  UO Application
UO applications are available in Study Abroad Programs, Room 330 Oregon Hall or online at:  UO application.  A $50 application fee is due at the time the application is submitted and is non-refundable under any circumstances.  Note: Students must also complete the KU application (see below).

Application #2:  University of Kansas (KU) Application
Because the CIMBA consortium is based at Kansas, all students who want to participate in the Paderno program from all U.S. universities must submit the KU application materials, available at KU Application.   These materials should be submitted directly to the Kansas office, as instructed.

KU requires a non-refundable application fee of $30, plus a substantial deposit to hold your place in the program.  See the website for more details.

Note: Students must also complete the UO application (see above).

Students who fail to complete both applications will not be admitted to the Paderno program.

Selection and Participation

Participants must meet the eligibility requirements for their chosen program, and be prepared linguistically, academically, and socially to succeed abroad. Study abroad participants must satisfactorily complete the following:

  • well-written program application.
  • personal interview.
  • timely submission of required paperwork.
  • attendance at pre-departure orientation sessions.
  • payment of program fees.

Program participants must also demonstrate the ability to be successful overseas through evidence of maturity, motivation, and flexibility, and such other characteristics as Study Abroad Programs may deem relevant or appropriate. Participation in any program is subject to the approval of International Affairs and its partner institutions, which may grant or withhold such approval in their sole discretion.

Secondary Paperwork

All students admitted to this program are required to complete and submit to Study Abroad Programs secondary paperwork. The paperwork will be given to students at the end of their interview or can be downloaded at:

Secondary Paperwork

Visa Information

Students (except for EU and Swiss citizens) who are admitted into this program must obtain an Italian student visa.  All admitted students are required to attend an Italian Visa Orientation session shortly after the application deadline, in order to obtain all the forms and information to get started.  Applicants will be contacted with the visa meeting schedule.

IMPORTANT: The visa application instructions provided by UO Study Abroad Programs override the instructions that all participants receive from Kansas.  Please disregard the KU instructions, as they apply primarily to students from the Great Plains states.

As a rule, student visa applications for Italy must be submitted through Study Abroad Programs; the San Francisco Italian Consulate will not accept applications directly from students.  For students who live in other jurisdictions, additional instructions will be provided at the visa orientation.

Please note that visa regulations and policies change frequently.

All students should apply for or renew (if necessary) their U.S. (or other) passports as soon as possible.

Orientations

All study abroad participants must fulfill the required study abroad orientation process. Students are required to complete a general Blackboard orientation and attend the program-specific orientation.

The orientations will cover administrative logistics, travel, health, safety, conduct, housing and cultural adjustment and whenever possible involve discussions with past participants. More information regarding the orientation process will be emailed to students.
