Academic Program
This program is designed for advanced undergraduate or graduate students. Students participating in this exchange program will take courses taught entirely in Italian (except foreign language courses) at the University of Pavia. There are no special courses for foreign students. Courses in Italian universities follow a semester schedule and are further divided into two periods within each semester. UO students wishing to participate in this exchange must be prepared to commit to a full academic year of study in Pavia. As in most European university systems, students are treated much more independently than in the U.S.
The University of Pavia offers courses in the faculties of the Humanities, Law, Political Science, Economics, Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine and Pharmacy. Oregon students selected for this exchange program usually take courses in the Humanities faculty (literature and history), but students may be accepted into any faculties except Medicine and Pharmacy.
The International Exchanges Coordinator of the Collegio Ghislieri and the International Student Advisor of the University serve as liaisons for the Oregon students in Pavia. There is no UO resident director on this program.
Registration and Credits
Students participating in this program will be registered at the University of Oregon and will receive UO credits for courses taken in Pavia. The student’s course work will be reviewed and evaluated by appropriate academic departments at the UO. Students must keep detailed records of course outlines, reading lists, exam results, and other work completed to facilitate accurate evaluation by the academic departments at the UO.
Students are responsible for making sure that the courses they plan to take in Pavia will meet major and minor requirements. Students are advised to consult with their academic advisor about their plans to study in the Pavia program.
Special Note
Students majoring in Italian or Romance Languages should observe that at least three of the upper-division literature courses (numbered above 319) must be taken on the Eugene campus.
