Program Details

Academic Calendar

Students may participate in this program for either semester or the full academic year. The fall semester begins in early August and ends in mid-December. The spring semester begins in early January and ends in early June. (Note: UNIS calendar may vary slightly.)

The Oslo International Summer School (ISS) runs from late June to the first week of August, and students may participate in the summer courses independently or in combination with study during the regular academic calendar. In 2008, the ISS was in session from June 21 to August 1.

Accommodations

Oregon students are provided rooms in one of the student halls of residence located in various parts of the city; Krinsjå is the main and recommended unit for international students. Rooms are generally single occupancy, and most have either a private bath or are shared with one other student. Kitchens and common rooms are shared with five to seven other students in the flat and often serve as a built-in social gathering place. All residential sites are within a short train or bus commute to the Blindern campus. Private housing in (shared) apartments or rented rooms is difficult to find in Oslo. Students are strongly advised to at least begin with a residence hall room arranged by the UiO.

Insurance

All students on this program are enrolled in a mandatory health and accident insurance plan. A complete description of the benefits and basic provisions of the insurance policy is included with pre-departure orientation materials.

UO Financial Aid

Using Your Financial Aid Abroad

Summer
During the summer, loans are generally the only type of aid available to students studying overseas and students should be aware that they may need to supplement their standard financial aid package. Summer financial aid applications are available beginning April 1 and must be submitted to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships by May 1. Early application is strongly advised.
