Academic Program
This program allows University of Oregon students to study in Sweden for one semester, an academic year, and/or during an eight-week intensive summer school. Students with one year or less of Swedish normally take Swedish language and other courses taught in English. Students with two or more years of Swedish, depending on their language ability and the availability of courses, may be able to take courses taught in Swedish.
Study Programs For UO Students
It should be noted that Swedish students normally take 4 or 5 courses in one subject at a time, during each semester. UO students usually choose courses in different subjects, which leads to very irregular schedules, with periods of two or more courses overlapping, and occasional unscheduled breaks during the semester. Uppsala offers a substantial number of courses in English in many fields. For more detailed information, see:

Uppsala International Summer Session
Undergraduate students are able to participate in the Uppsala International Summer School, an eight-week academic program run at Uppsala University. The program is more intensive than regular semester calendars at Uppsala, with courses scheduled four days a week, and program excursions on Fridays.
Courses are offered each summer in Swedish language (at all levels). In addition, there are topical courses offered–some taught in English, and some in Swedish–in subjects such as art history, sociology, music, history, and film studies. There are also special courses in translation and a course for heritage Swedish speakers who have not been trained in the written language.
UO students who are interested in participating should first apply for the Uppsala program using the application in this website:

Early Swedish Course: Fall Semester
Students who have no background in Swedish language have the option to add an early course in Swedish language, arranged specifically for new international students at Uppsala University. The course runs throughout August and into the first week of the semester (switching to evening meetings in that final week) and includes language and cultural lessons and social activities. Participants gain an early start on learning the basics of Swedish language, while also meeting and interacting with other new international students in Uppsala.
There is no tuition charged for the course, though participants will incur an additional month of living costs in Uppsala. (However, rent charges for the student residence halls begin on August 1 in any event, so it is only the non-rent living costs that increase.) This course is equivalent to the regular Swedish 1 course taught during the academic semesters at Uppsala; participants earn 6 UO credits in 100-level Swedish (SWED). The credits may be applied to the UO sequence in Swedish.
Registration and Credits
Students participating in this program will be registered at the University of Oregon and will receive UO credits for courses taken at Uppsala. The student’s course work will be reviewed and evaluated by appropriate academic departments at the UO. Students must keep detailed records of course outlines, reading lists, exam results, and other work completed to facilitate accurate evaluation by the academic departments at the UO.
Students are responsible for making sure that the courses they plan to take in Uppsala will meet major and minor requirements. Receipt of group requirement credit is unlikely and should not be anticipated. Students are advised to consult with their academic advisor about their plans to study in the Uppsala program.
Course Equivalencies
Only those courses that have been taken by UO students in the last seven years are listed on the equivalency sheet. Courses that do not appear on this sheet will need to be approved for UO credit.
