Academic Calendar

Students may participate in this program for either semester or the full academic year. The fall semester begins around September 1 and ends in mid-January. The spring semester begins in late January and ends in early June. Because most courses are taught in intensive, short "modules," UO students can participate for the fall term only, returning to campus in January for winter term.

Irregular Schedule: Because Uppsala follows a module schedule for academic courses in the fall and spring semesters, there is no calendar valid for the whole university. Individual departments set their own course and vacation schedules.

Summer Program: In addition, undergraduate students may participate in only the eight-week session of the Uppsala International Summer School, either independently or in combination with a regular enrollment period at Uppsala University. (Students who want to participate for lengths other than the full eight-week session must register on their own and may not use UO financial aid. Credits for shorter programs must be transferred to the UO and should be discussed with the Registrar's office before departure.) UO participants must complete the regular application available in this website.

Dates for 2008-09 are as follows:

Summer:  July 22 to August 15, 2008
Early Swedish Course:  July 31 to August 31, 2008
Fall:  September 1 to December 20, 2008
Spring:  January 18 to June 7, 2009

Exact dates for 2009-10 will be posted at the Uppsala website after January 1, 2009.

Accommodations

Oregon students are provided rooms in one of the student residence halls in or around Uppsala. Students may select from a range of options with varying monthly rents. Rooms are usually single occupancy with a private bath or one shared with one to three other students. Kitchens are shared with six or more other students and serve as a social gathering place. The Studentstaden has been the favorite site of UO students for several years, but there are several other options. Hotel Uppsala is the least expensive option, but it is a youth hostel and is not recommended.

Insurance

All students on this program are enrolled in a mandatory health and accident insurance plan. A complete description of the benefits and basic provisions of the insurance policy is included with pre-departure orientation materials.

UO Financial Aid

Using Your Financial Aid Abroad

Summer
During the summer, loans are generally the only type of aid available to students studying overseas and students should be aware that they may need to supplement their standard financial aid package. Summer financial aid applications are available beginning April 1 and must be submitted to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships by May 1. Early application is strongly advised.
