OIP’s Role in the Process (Administrative Review)

The professional, administrative faculty of the Office of International Programs complete the initial steps in the process of evaluating overseas courses for credit, including:

  • Collecting course information (syllabi—where available, course description forms, reading lists, etc.)
  • Determining the total number of credits* that each course will receive
  • Recommending courses to particular academic departments and sending out evaluation paperwork
  • Following up on the process with departmental evaluators
  • Exercising authority in extreme cases to grant credit, but only when the evaluator has not responded in over one month, and either the student’s graduation is pending the result of the evaluation, or the course is the last one remaining to complete the student's transcript for the terms spent overseas. The Office of the Registrar has granted this authority to OIP to ensure that students' transcripts are processed in as timely a fashion as possible.

*Note: OIP evaluators determine the total number of credits that a course will receive. Academic department/program evaluators determine whether those credits are appropriately listed under the individual department or program, and whether and how they apply to the department’s or program’s major(s)/minor(s).
