Why treat your education like an armchair activity? Be a student of the world! Go Beyond Your Borders. UO Students Secure National Study Abroad Scholarships Thanks to our wonderful students, the UO is among the nation's top universities for two of the most well-known international scholarship programs. In the fall 2009 cycle, the UO was the fourth university in the country for the number of Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships awarded, with 16 UO students receiving the award. The Gilman Scholarship provides up to $5,000 toward the cost of study abroad participation, to undergraduate students with financial need, as determined by Pell Grant eligibility. UO students received awards for study in such countries as Sweden, India, Ecuador, and Taiwan. In addition, eight UO students also received Fulbright awards for international study or research in 2009-10. This represents the highest number of UO awardees in the last fifteen years. Recipients range from doctoral candidates to graduating seniors who received their bachelor's degrees in 2009, and their placements include projects such as dissertation/thesis research, intensive graduate study, and the teaching of English as a second language. Fulbright awards generally cover all necessary expenses for a nine- or ten-month period in the host country, and the Fulbright program is one of the most prestigious international scholarships available in the United States. Students interested in either program should contact our office for more information. 'Show the O!'
