The Dakar, Senegal Summer Program is a five-week opportunity for students to get to know the culture, society, politics and language of West Africa by living and studying in a vibrant and cosmopolitan city. The program is especially well suited for students with limited or no experience in Africa, providing a well-guided introduction to this region. At the same time, the program also provides a base for more advanced students who are looking for a way to begin a longer period of study or research on francophone Africa, the Sahel region, or Islamic Africa–all this in one remarkably representative country!
Highlights:
- Led by a faculty member from the University of Oregon or Indiana University, the program also includes guest lectures from leading Senegalese scholars and public figures.
- Service learning placement in a Senegalese non-government organization.
- Field excursions to various destinations around Senegal.
- Senegalese university students serve as conversation partners and cultural guides for program participants.
This publication will be made available in accessible formats upon request.
The University of Oregon is an affirmative action, equal opportunity institution committed to cultural diversity and compliance with the American with Disabilities Act.
