How Program Selection Works
Every UO overseas program has some minimum eligibility requirements,
often including:
- a class standing requirement (like being a sophomore—having
at least 45 credits—at departure);
- a minimum GPA requirement (usually at least 2.50); and
- some other requirements (specific courses, majors, language
proficiency, etc.).
If you fail to meet the eligibility requirements, check
with the program coordinator before you apply to see if the program
might be able to accommodate you anyway. In some cases, it simply is not
possible.
Selection for any program is based on a review of the student’s
written application, transcripts, recommendations, a personal interview,
and (in some cases) a language proficiency evaluation by a UO language
instructor.
Students must also make satisfactory academic progress throughout
the application process and their study abroad program, and otherwise
comply with policies and procedures of the host university, the UO
and Office of International Programs (OIP).
Participants must be prepared linguistically, academically, and socially
to succeed abroad. Overseas study participants must satisfactorily
complete the following:
- well-written program application (including well written essays),
- personal interview,
- timely submission of required paperwork,
- attendance at pre-departure orientation sessions, and
- payment of program fees.
Program participants must also demonstrate the ability to be successful
overseas through evidence of maturity, motivation, and flexibility,
and such other characteristics as the OIP may deem relevant or appropriate.
Participation in any program is subject to the approval of the Office
of International Programs and its partner institutions, which may
grant or withhold such approval in their sole discretion.
If you have any questions about eligibility or selection, please
contact the program coordinator for more information.
