On Campus Opportunities
Internationally-Related Student Groups:
Office of International Programs:
International Student Orientation (ISO):
URL: http://oip.uoregon.edu/iss/orientation/
Every year new international students come to the UO; the majority of them enter during fall term. Due to this large influx of new international students, the Office of International Programs holds a comprehensive orientation (ISO) during the month of September. Students who have studied abroad or are otherwise interested in international exchange may participate as ISO leaders.
Being an ISO leader would consist of helping a group of students make their transition into UO life by giving campus tours, accompanying them to various orientation workshops, and just being a friend and general adviser. ISO occurs the two weeks right before classes start in September. You can even receive upper division credits for participating as a leader.
Overseas Experience Course:
This one credit course is designed to help returning study abroad students make a smooth transition back to their lives in the US. Students reflect on their international experiences and explore future opportunities. Click here for most recent syllabus.

There are several jobs available to fluent English speakers, to assist students studying English language at the AEI. One of the most popular jobs is tutoring. Tutors typically have two or more students whom they meet individually for two hours or more a week. AEI also has special programs during the summer which include opportunities such as being residence hall staff or an activities coordinator. Please check with AEI about upcoming opportunities.
Conversational Friends:
URL: http://oip.uoregon.edu/ff/
Conversation friends are pairs of U.S. and international students who meet one hour a week to hold conversation in English, in order to offer the international visitors help with their conversation skills (but friendship is a good benefit, too!).
Foreign Language International Studies (FLIS) Day:
URL: http://babel.uoregon.edu/YLC/flis/generalinfo.html
Every spring term, the FLIS Day program offers a diverse array of presentations, workshops and hands-on activities, covering a wide range of topics and interests. Some of last year's favorites were: Buñol: La Tomatina; Chinese Calligraphy; Italian Customs and Traditions; Los Gauchos of Argentina; Sauerkraut and Lederhosen; and many others. This program is geared for high school students who come to the UO campus for the day, but UO students are encouraged to volunteer and participate behind-the-scenes or as presenters.
Friendship Foundation for International Students (FFIS):

Fall Home-stay: FFIS seeks individuals, couples and families who are willing to host a new international student for 3 to 4 days in September, just when the main International Student Orientation (ISO) begins. Applications to become an FFIS member are online and in the OIP Office, 330 Oregon Hall
Global Talk, the First UO Multilingual Publication:

Hosted by the International Student Association, International Coffee Hour is held every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the International Resource Center, in the EMU. This event is held every Friday during the fall, winter, and spring terms, except for holidays and finals week.
International Friend Program:
URL: http://oip.uoregon.edu/ff/
The International Friend Program matches participants with a UO international student. International Friends are encouraged to help students with orientation upon arrival, invite them to dinner throughout the year, take them on daytrips to the coast or mountains, and help them adjust to U.S. culture.
International Resource Center:

The IRC is a great resource for people interested in all things international. Magazines from other countries, movies, travel guidebooks, and international news and sports telecasts, are a few examples of what is available at the IRC.
Weekly events: (1) International Coffee Hour; (2) International Film Night (usually Thursdays or Fridays, varying by term)
Winter Term event: International Poetry Night: Anyone who is interested in reading poetry in any foreign language, or simply from another country, is welcome to participate.
Spring Term event: Photo Contest: Photos taken abroad or including an international theme are selected for display in the Adele McMillan Gallery. Everyone is welcome to submit their photos!
Yamada Language Center:
URL: http://babel.uoregon.edu/ylc/exchange/select.html
The Yamada Center’s Foreign Language Exchange database is set up to allow students to contact each other, to mentor, learn, and practice foreign languages. U.S. students can practice their skills in a language they are studying at the UO or independently, while in turn providing assistance to the exchange partner in their development of skills in English.
